On December 6, 2024, the eve of the centenary of Mário Soares’ birth, at 14h30 in the library of Escola Secundária Gabriel Pereira, CIDEHUS inaugurates the itinerant exhibition «Mário Soares. Campanhas a Sul», a display that focueses on the statesman’s political activity in the South of Portugal.

The inauguration will be preceded by a conference given by Fernando Gameiro, curator of the exhibition and integrated researcher of the Center, and by Rúben Palaio, research fellow of the project Sharing Memories: Voices of Community. This intervention will take place at 14h, in the multipurpose room of the library.

The accreditation of this degree, by A3ES, which will be offered starting in the academic year 2025/2026, reflects the institution’s commitment to advanced training and research in the tourism field.

According to Hermínia Vilar, Rector of the University of Évora, with the start of this Doctorate degree, the university “reinforces the capacity to train professionals with an interdisciplinary and innovative vision in the field. It is also an important step to strengthen CIDEHUS’ ‘Tourism and Populations’ line of research.”

On November 21, at 19h (Spanish time), the launch of the new issue of the MIDAS Journal, “Una conversación transfronteriza sobre museología y sostenibilidad” (n. 19), will take place in a virtual format.

The program includes the participation of Ariadna Ruiz (Universidad de Málaga) e Álvaro Notario (Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha), coordinators of this thematic issue, as well as some of the authors: Mônica Barcelos (Ibermuseus), Javier Cuevas (Universidad Málaga) e Óscar Navajas (Universidad de Alcalá). The session also counts with the special participation of museologist Clara Camacho (Museus e Monumentos de Portugal, E.P.E. and Plano Nacional das Artes).

As part of admission ceremony of the University of Évora to the Portuguese Archives Network (Rede Portuguesa de Arquivos, RPA), the results of the Digital Archive of Cante (Florêncio Cacete) and the preliminary results of the Sharing Memories: Voices of Community project (Fernando Gameiro e Maria Ana Bernardo) were presented, and will now be a part of the RPA.

ADCANTE, which has already reached archives of 122 groups of Cante Alentejano, has so far collected around 30.000 documents, 2.000 of which are now available on its online platform.

Within the scope of the admission protocol of Arquivo.UÉ to the RPA, which took place on November 18, 20204, the FUNDIS (Documental Funds of Southern Institutionsl) project was presented by Fátima Farrica, a CIDEHUS researcher. The project consists on an information repository with the description of documental funds from institutions in the Alentejo region. CIDEHUS congratulates Arquivos.UÉ for these negotiations.

The traveling exhibition “Boers de Angola, 1957” consists by 27 photographs by Manuel Viegas Guerreiro (1912-1997), an ethnologist, anthropologist, and pedagogue of the twentieth century.

The exhibition is the result of a partnership with CIDEHUS.

The inauguration will take place on November 8, 2024, at 16h, in the Sociology corridor of CES, UÉvora.

The InMap – Memories and Archives: Mapping the (In)tangible (2024-2025) project will map and analyze the situation of the memory archives created over the last two decades by institutions connected with heritage (e.g., museums, libraries, archives, universities, associations). Beyond a characterization of these recent memory archives (e.g. archives that document intangible heritage and oral history), it is essential to understand the scale and extension of barriers to the preservation and access to these collections. Diagnosing and identifying the needs and challenges of this panorama will contribute to the development of guidelines for public policies.

This project is developed within the Science4Policy 2023 (S4P-23) call: Concurso de Estudos de Ciência para as Políticas Públicas, an initiative by PlanAPP – Centre for Planning and Evaluation of Public Policies, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).

The project is coordinated by Ana Carvalho (CIDEHUS).
