Within the broad topic of the DSOTT 2025 conference, this session aims to stimulate the academic discussion and research on topics related to the challenges that the global population changes bring to the sustainable tourism development. Although these impacting changes and unprecedented times we are living in, the population dynamics remains a central issue in the society and form the consumer base for the tourism services/products. However, research often lacks of a comprehensive view of how population dynamics intersect with sustainability in
tourism.

The Conference will be held in the beautiful Coimbra, Portugal, next June 4-6, 2025.

In this book, its authors sought to “portray” in detail the legislative elections in the First Republic (1910-1926) in the six districts of Alentejo (Portalegre, Elvas, Estremoz, Évora, Beja and Aljustrel).

After analyzing the electoral legislation and the political context in which the vote took place, its various stages and contingencies are addressed, namely the choice of candidates, the electoral campaign, clientelism, agreements, fraud and other irregularities.
In quantitative terms (and not only), this study makes a comparison with others that preceded it, presenting new and definitive data for some elections. Before the general tables and the conclusion, the social and political profile of the deputies elected in Alentejo during the First Republic is analyzed.
This book was prepared within the scope of CIDEHUS / University of Évora and financed through funds from FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology.

On October 28, at 16h30 (mainland Portugal), we will have the pleasure of presenting, at the Autonomous University of Lisbon, the Study Volume Resistência(s) e [in]sucessos nos impérios ibéricos, Séculos XVI-XIX, resulting from the event with the same name that brought together master’s and doctoral students from national and international universities to discuss themes from 2 international projects (Resistance and Failure). (Resistance e Failure).
This study volume was coordinated by Roberta Stumpf, Mafalda Soares da Cunha, and Rodrigo Bentes Monteiro.

After the launch, Professor Miguel Figueira de Faria will give a conference within the scope of the Chair of Luso-Brazilian History and Culture, to which everyone is also invited, ” Textual/Visual: linguagens alternativas. Formas de descrever na era da expansão européia “.

On October 4, 5, and 6, the Intramuros Festival will take place, dedicated to the Heritage of Évora’s Historic Center. This festival aims to promote the vast existing heritage within the Évora city walls. It is an initiative by the União das Freguesias de Évora (Centro Histórico) in order to incentivize the valorization of heritage through the awareness and knowledge of it.

CIDEHUS’ Integrated Researchers Fernando Branco Correia and Bruno Lopes will be leading the guided tours “As influências islâmicas e de tradição islâmica no centro histórico de Évora” (October 5, 16h) and “Os vestígios da inquisição em Évora” (October 6, 11h), respectively.

The initiatives that integrate the festival are free of charge, but subject to registration.
